U.S.S. Lafayette, SSBN-616 at Electric Boat, Groton, Connecticut
While I initially did not like the idea of our home port even after the shipyard being in the New London/Groton area, once I began looking around I found much to like about this part of the country. While the folks up there just didn't get it when it came to "authentic Southern BBQ" (their version was little more than ground beef with tomato sauce), in every other category the dining choices were incredible! One of my favorite places for a pizza (for instance) was Sprios Pizza, just outside the North Gate of the sub base on Rte. 12.
There is much to like about the scenery in the area as well; one place that I burned lots of film on was the Devil's Hopyard with some incredible falls that often froze in the winter. My travels also included such places as Mystic Seaport with trips as well to New York City (for the shows on Broadway) and Boston for both the ballet and Benihana Restaurant.
